FROMMER TANZ. Abenteuer einer Jugend

Director Ran Chai Bar-zvi, whose productions combine political poignancy with poetic power, focuses on Klaus Mann’s debut novel, which tells of the dreams, fears and life paths of young people in a time marked by numerous crises and upheavals. They find refuge in Berlin’s club scene, where freedom and resistance still seem possible. Through its open exploration of permissive and same-sex love, Mann’s work breaks social taboos as one of the first coming-out novels of its era. It takes us to the Weimar Republic, where the feelings and struggles of a generation against authoritarian tendencies become a powerful cry for liberation.

The premiere will take place on September 24, 2025 at 8 p.m. at the Thalia Theatre Hamburg (Gaußstraße).

“A writer is someone who has difficulties with the German language”: Tomer Gardi tells us a rogue’s tale, cheeky, with linguistic capers in “Broken German”, an artificial language with unusual spelling, idiosyncratic sentence structure and all but flawless standard German. The language is played with in a comical and slapstick-like manner, breaking with the conventions of storytelling and questioning the possibility of comprehensive communication: how can it succeed when words, thoughts, people and even dogs suddenly encounter each other in completely different cultural contexts?

The world premiere will take place on September 20, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at Schauspiel Stuttgart (Kammertheater).

Jacob McNeal is a successful, unscrupulous writer almost manically hoping to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. His liver is failing, his son is threatening him with a public scandal and his fascination with artificial intelligence could shut down his career.
In his new play, Ayad Akhtar questions the machinations of the literary world and the influence of AI on his profession as a writer and reflects on the issues of greed, power and intellectual appropriation.

The German premiere will take place on September 14, 2025 at 7 p.m. at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.

Palestinian-Israeli actor Yousef Sweid dives into the chaos of identity, truth, and family life in Between The River And The Sea. Raised as a Christian-Arab kid in Haifa, now raising two Jewish-Arab kids in Berlin, he unpacks his in-between-ness – where contradictions clash and slogans fail. With biting humour and raw honesty, Sweid weaves personal stories, political reflection, and absurd everyday moments into a sharp, unflinching solo performance. This is no neat narrative, but a plea for nuance, for listening, and for stories that rarely get told. Uncomfortable, unforgettable, unfiltered. Complex, touching and funny.

The performances will take place at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as part of the Zoo 2025 Programme, August 1 until 13.

CALL ME PARIS by Yana Eva Thönnes
a co-production of Schaubühne Berlin and Biennale di Venezia – 53. International Theatre Festival

The world Premiere of CALL ME PARIS will take place at Teatro Piccolo Arsenale at the Biennale di Venezia on June 1, 2025.

CALL ME PARIS is about the traumatic memories of two doppelgängers from the noughties. The famous It girl Paris Hilton unwittingly becomes the star of a sex tape posted online by her ex-boyfriend, entitled “1 Night in Paris”, while in Bergisch Gladbach, a young girl nicknamed Paris finds herself in her own version of this video. To regain control over her image and ultimately over herself, Paris embarks on an eerie journey into the past. How did she become “Paris”? Where is the tape now? And if what we see is only a copy of the original, who is the girl on the screen?
