Pola Kardum (GER)

born in Berlin, worked from 2009 to 2014 as a fashion designer for various film productions, holding different positions within the costume department. Since 2011, she has been working as a freelance costume designer for film, theatre, and opera productions.

Internationally, she has collaborated with director David Marton at the Opéra National de Lyon, La Monnaie in Brussels, and Theater an der Wien on productions such as Orfeo ed Euridice, La damnation de Faust, Don Giovanni, Dido and Aeneas, Pique Dame, Capriccio, and Der Freischütz. In Germany, her theatre work has taken her to venues including HAU – Hebbel am Ufer, the Maxim Gorki Theater, the Prinzregententheater, and the Münchner Kammerspiele, with projects such as La Sonnambula and On the Road (directed by David Marton), Die Kränkungen der Menschheit and 1000 Serpentinen Angst (directed by Anta Helene Recke), as well as Chorus never dies by Marta Gornicka and We call wonder by Christiane Huber.

She also designed costumes for the German feature films Ich will mich nicht künstlich aufregen and Weitermachen Sanssouci by Max Linz, both of which premiered at the Berlinale. The film Golden Twenties by Sophie Kluge was screened at the Munich Film Festival. Her most recent feature film, Die Theorie von Allem (The Theory of Everything), directed by Timm Kröger, premiered in competition at the 80th Venice International Film Festival.

Her recent projects include the opera production Die Melancholie des Widerstands (The Melancholy of Resistance) at the Staatsoper Berlin (2024, directed by David Marton), the international film production No Good Men (2024–2025, directed by Shahrbanoo Sadat), as well as the theatre productions Monster (2025–2026, Schauspielhaus Zürich, directed by Anta Recke, Maxi Lehmann and Anna Fröhlicher) and Kassandra (2025–2026, Maxim Gorki Theater, directed by Marta Gornicka).
