DIE REDAKTION (The Editors)

2023

Premiere: Volkstheater Wien

[The audience] … rose from its red velvet seats and applauded, for minutes. […] The four-member ensemble, consisting of Gerti Drassl, Murali Perumal, Christoph Schüchner and Magdalena Simmel, takes you on an intense hunt for the truth full of intimidation lawsuits, corruption and a bunch of post haggling.” – Wiener Zeitung online (quote originally in German)

Despite the serious background, however, ‘Die Redaktion’ comes across as genuinely humorous. […] Fuhr has succeeded in telling the affairs of the part-state oil company in recent years in a very accessible and exciting way.” – APA (quote originally in German)

Based on a true story around the journalist collective DOSSIER, Calle Fuhr’s most recent play depicts  machinations of the environmentally destructive corporation OMV, which – funded by taxpayers’ money – engages in corruption, whitewashes itself by subsidizing high-culture institutions and undermines press freedom through targeted advertising policies and bullying.

ENCORE

2021

Premiere: Volkstheater Wien

In Theresa’s memory, her family was only happy when they sat together watching TV: A living room in the Salzburg suburbs, THE BLACK LIGHTNING on the screen, Toni Sailer in front of the camera  – the hero of her brother Pepi. After Pepi dies in a tragic car accident, in which Theresa feels involved, the family disintegrates. Years later, the accusations of physical violence, abuse of power and cover-up against Toni Sailer reach the public and Theresa is torn inside: What was this idol of an entire nation really like? What should she believe in from now on, what should she keep in her memory?
A monolg as poignant as an ancient drama, where fate arbitrarily decides on lives and topples the sinful gods from pedestals.
