Steffen Link (GER)

is playwright and actor. Born in Darmstadt, he studied German and drama/cultural anthropology in Mainz. In 2010-2015, he studied acting at the Arts University in Bern and Zurich.
Steffen regularly develops his own theater works, e.g. for the Sprungturm Festival in Darmstadt, and writes texts for play developments such as CITTÀ DEL VATICANO with Falk Richter at Schauspielhaus Wien, HAPPY WE LIVED ON A PLANET with Mervan Ürkmez at Schauspiel Dortmund, or FEELING FAUST with Claudia Bossard at Munich’s Volkstheater. His debut play DER VEREIN will premiere in the 2023/24 season at Schauspielhaus Wien. His text DINGE, DIE EINFACH WAHR SIND is nominated for the Retzhofer Dramapreis 2023.

A housing development on the edge of a small town – Stefan grows up in this suburban utopia. Between family strife and everyday school life, a third factor determines the teenager’s life. His parents have joined a free Christian church, which believes on a direct line to Jesus. The sheltered community has grown over the years. Who wouldn’t want to have the Savior himself as their best friend? But this friendship doesn’t come for free. The members have to bear witness to each other about their lifestyle, their dreams and their desires. Those who disappoint Jesus are in danger of falling deeply. And Stefan must fear that this is exactly what will happen to him. Because he dreams of the theater, and he desires men, which pleases neither the Messiah nor his club.
