Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay (GER)

is a film writer and director.
Raised in Hagen, he studied Media Arts at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and graduated with the feature film drama ORAY, which was awarded Best First Feature at the Berlinale 2019 and won numerous international Awards. He was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. Together with Claus Reichel he works as producer and managing director of the film production company filmfaust. In 2024, Mehmet was part of FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS Campagne. Mehmet’s second feature HYSTERIA premiered successfully at the Berlinale 2025.

“Hysteria” is the name of the film that is blowing minds at the Berlinale. And it has definitively catapulted its director and author, Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay, into the ranks of the most exciting young cinematic talents. (Die Zeit)
