Maja Zade (GER)

is a writer for theater, radio play and film, dramaturg and translator.
Raised in Germany and Sweden, she studied English Literature at London University and Queen’s University in Canada and Theatre Production at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Since the 2022/23 season, she has been a senior dramaturg at Schaubühne Berlin and has taught at Malmö Theatre School and Edinburgh University since 2012.

Maja Zade’s plays, such as reden über sex (talking about sex), status quo, abgrund (abyss) and oedipus have been translated into numerous languages and are performed worldwide. Maja regularly translates plays from Swedish and English into German [Lars von Trier, Caryl Churchill] and from German into English [Marius von Mayenburg, Roland Schimmelpfennig, Lars Norén, Falk Richter].

The monologue spinne (spider) will premiere at the Schaubühne Berlin in June 2024. With Carloina Peters in the leading role, spinne (spider) is Maja Zade’s directorial debut.
