Ayla Pierrot Arendt, born in 1987 in Munich, is a visual artist and director. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (2006-2011) and choreography and performance in the Master’s program at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Giessen (2012-2016). In her interdisciplinary productions, Arendt combines video art with choreography, singing and composition. Thematically, she deals with social values and ideals in democratic contexts and reflects on their change or erosion against the backdrop of contemporary conflicts and protests.
Her experimental video works have been presented at renowned festivals since 2007, including the Videonale at the Kunstmuseum Bonn and the European Media Arts Festival Osnabrück. Since 2015, Arendt has celebrated several world premieres of her so-called “video choreographies” and multimedia operas, including the most recent at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt.
